Hiya! For this entry, I'm changing up the pace to talk about my recent job shadowing opportunity in all it's nontraditional glory! For my required job shadowing, I worked with Stephen Byrd, Erin Richburg (the best art teacher :^) ), Raenan Coore, and Yamila Rodriguez, along with the video staff at Trinity Church to create a large-scale projection piece portraying Thomas, Mary, and Peter's stories from the bible in the style of stained glass.

I think, above all else, I learned about just how much communication is required across so many platforms in order to get something on this scale and with a diverse group of people is necessary. I did hands on work, but I think the most memorable thing from this experience has been just how many times I texted Richburg to let her know what work I was getting done and to do progress checks, and going back and forth between students and teacher on different platforms.

Additionally, however, I mainly worked on the concept sketches for the pieces with Richburg. I think another important thing I learned was how when you work on a large scale work like this, things from the beginning stages aren't always necessarily translated or even used, since it's all trial and error. So I had to learn to cope with the fact that only a fraction of the actual work I did was incorporated into the final work. But, it is also important to know that despite my work not being directly translated into the final projection, my work was important to the development of the piece even still.

I'm not so sure if this persuaded me to pursue any specific career, but I am very grateful to have had this experience because now I feel more confident in my ability to collaborate with others and work as a part of something for large works, even at a developmental stage (or maybe, specifically!). I've even become more confident in emailing people directly for job interests, as I already have done so and they've gotten back to me! (Wish me luck please it's a youtube animation team thing :^) )

The first column is my concept sketch for Doubting Thomas with the finalized sketch of the design below, the middle column being my sketches for Mary with additions by Richburg, and the final column is a sketch done by Richburg where I drew the roosters in their places, which were translated into the final piece and the linework I did for Peter below.

This is what the finalized design looked like and what was projected during Trinity's Easter projection and recorded and projected out to several countries to Navy soldiers on deployment. I additionally did line work to section off some of the pieces that were ultimately revamped and altered in the final design.

Overall, I am pleased with how the piece ended up, and extremely thankful to not only Stephen Byrd and Trinity Church for allowing me to work with them on such a large and important piece, but also Richburg for trusting me to work on this piece as well.

This was an very important educational experience for me when it comes to working on the process for large projects like this and working with other people!

Long time no see :^)

As some people may already be aware, there have been a few rough patches in the progress of the collaborative series I'm working on, Archangels. We've had to modify some presentation aspects, and we're behind the point where we had initially intended to be; however, we haven't sunk! Our series will in fact be ready to present for showcasing at the other VPAA Senior Productions, despite any bumps in the road. I believe our pieces will still look pretty cool too c:

Here's how they're looking currently!!

(in order of days of the week that each Archangel represents)

As of now, we are in the final steps of getting these pieces printed and ready to present! These are the latest files I have as of now to present. In these stages, Yamilla is working on the backgrounds and Raenan and I are going in and adjusting the colors and adding specific alterations such as line color, boldness, and additional touches of color. All 7 pieces will be ready to be printed in just under a week from now, and we've already gotten our first one printed. Any changes at this point won't be too major, so we're really close to the end :^)

In reference to my experience in this collaboration so far, I can definitely say that this was a valuable experience for me to have before I'm released into the world... It's definitely been stressful and communication has certainly had complications, among other things, but I do value having THIS be my first exposure to this experience than somewhere else...

I'm definitely glad that this is almost over though. I very much valued working with my team members and appreciate their hard work! :^)

Py's back!! Also did you know that sea otters hold hands while they sleep? I just thought that was adorable.

Hiya! We're just gonna jump in right away this time!

So as you may know from my previous blog post, I've started my collaborative semester recently involving two projects! As I'm done with working with EmberBlaze, I am now 100% in my Archangels project!

We've received a lot of positive feedback (by "we" I mean Rae, Yam and I) on Archangels so far, which is extremely motivating!! I'm personally SUPER excited to see these bad boys come into fruition. I'm only ONE (1) sketch away from being complete with my sketches!!

Of which I have ever so modestly dropped in right below:

I've organized them (or at least attempted to) put them in order according to the days of the week each person represents based off of their assigned archangel. However, upon uploading these to this blog post and trying to put them in said order, I realized I messed up the placements of the planets that serve as a visual reminder of what day of the week they're in. So I. Need to fix that.

To look at the symbolism for each person and their archangel, you can reference my previous blog post which I have, graciously, put a link to down here so you don't have to scroll back up to get that link. I'm here to help you :)

I am extremely pleasantly surprised with how things are looking currently!! I didn't expect these sketches to turn out so well!! I am a little concerned with how we're doing on time to work with the physical materials in order to transfer this project from the computer to a physical plane. Although, I do greatly enjoy working with my partners on this, so I feel like if I need to discuss anything with them on progress being made anywhere I can :D

We've realized that if this project doesn't quite make it to the large-scale that we wish, that the designs are already strong enough that even as prints with some lights, they would still be outstanding pieces! I do pride myself a good bit in this piece especially because these sketches, while only the beginning phase, are extremely prominent in the work itself due to the detail I put in them, so I'm happy to see these ideas translated fully once the pieces are complete!

While working on this piece, as well as my previous one as a matter of fact, I've incorporated the idea of a series of works in a single piece. I have initially seen this from tarot cards made by communities, series based on the zodiacs, seasons, planets, etc. These types of series' have made me enthralled by the idea of a series that's made up of connected works to match a motif or theme. Thanks to these, I think I've found a sweet spot for creating that allows me to push symbolism and concepts while balancing it with my simpler and cartoonish looking style in order to create pieces that are still received as mature.
